The Chief Minister is the head of the government in a state and is appointed by the Governor. He has immense powers and vast responsibilities such as appointing the state council of ministers, allocating and reshuffling portfolios among ministers, directing and controlling activities of all ministers, communicating with the Governor, recommending dissolution of legislative assembly, advising the Governor on appointment of important officials, announcing policies on the floor of the house, and acting as the crisis manager in the state.

The Chief Minister is tagged by winning a majority in the State Legislative Assembly. The political party with the majority or the coalition is the one invited by the Governor to form the government, and the leader of the party is appointed as the Chief Minister. The Governor invites the party with the majority to form the government and the leader of the party is appointed as the Chief Minister. The MLA of the political party which gets the most in the state assembly elections choose who will become the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister is appointed by the Governor of the state and who also appoints other ministers on the advice of the Chief Minister.
